The Galaxy Z TriFold, Samsung's first-ever tri-fold smartphone, is out for sale now, and the news about the possible repairs costs has already come up.
A replacement for the screen of the folding phone will however hinge on which display it is, and the costs can be like very high.
According to a report from South Korea posted on Naver.com, which has been cited by SamMobile, the estimated prices for screen repairs are given. The outer display of the Galaxy Z TriFold is expected to be priced anywhere between KRW 1,37,000 and KRW 2,26,000, which is approximately Rs. 8,300 to Rs. 13,700 in the Indian currency. The inner folding screen that is larger and is also the one showcasing the tri-fold design is way more expensive. The replacement of the inner panel is quoted to be between KRW 16,57,500 to KRW 18,34,500 which is around Rs. 1,00,000 to Rs. 1,12,000.
The cost of the outer screen replacement is at par with earlier models of Samsung foldable phones, while the inner panel's price is an indication of the technical challenge and the size involved in its manufacture.
The same report suggests that Samsung is going to sell the Galaxy Z TriFold but in limited supply only in South Korea. Individual Samsung outlets are reported to have got only 15 to 30 units each, which makes the total of about 700 devices available across the country. The company is aiming to sell 2,500 to 5,000 units by the beginning of 2026, according to a rumor, but officially these numbers have not been confirmed by Samsung.
In its completely unfolded state, Galaxy Z TriFold boasts a 10-inch QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display which supports a 120Hz refresh rate and emits up to 1,600 nits of peak brightness. The smaller 6.5-inch outer display is a Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a maximum brightness of 2,600 nits. The Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2 has been used by Samsung to protect the display while the back panel is made of ceramic-glass fiber-reinforced composite material.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite chip supports the device, which is also backed by 16GB of RAM and the choice of 512GB or 1TB of internal storage.
Among the phone's highlights is a powerful rear camera trio composed of a 200MP main sensor with optical stabilization, a 12MP ultra-wide lens, and a telephoto camera with a 3x optical zoom at 10MP resolution. The device comes with dual 10MP front cameras for selfies and video calls.
The battery has a capacity of 5,600mAh, which can be charged with 45W wired or 15W wireless charging. Samsung, the battery maker, says that when the smartphone is connected to a suitable charger, it can achieve half the battery in about 30 minutes.
