Dream11 Shifts Strategy After Real-Money Gaming Ban, Enters Sports-Entertainment Space
Dream11 has shifted from fantasy gaming to a new sports-entertainment model after India’s real-money gaming ban. The platform now focuses on creator-led watch-alongs, live reactions, community chats, and free fantasy experiences.
Dream11 unveils its new second-screen sports platform featuring creator-led watch-alongs, live reactions, and interactive fan engagement.

Dream11 is redefining its business model as it transitions from fantasy gaming to a wider sports-entertainment platform. The strategic shift comes after the central government’s nationwide ban on real-money gaming in August, a move that wiped out nearly 95% of the company’s revenue and its entire profit.
The platform, which claims a user base of more than 250 million, is now positioning itself as a “second-screen sports platform.” The revamped offering focuses on creator-driven watch-along sessions, real-time fan reactions, interactive chat features, and free fantasy-style games that comply with current regulations.
Dream11’s new direction draws inspiration from Twitch, the popular streaming service Amazon acquired in 2014. The company aims to capture the growing space where fans engage in real-time discussions alongside live sports broadcasts, creating a parallel layer of entertainment beyond television coverage.
In line with this strategy, Dream11 is actively onboarding independent creators who will be able to host live match streams, build dedicated fan communities, and generate fresh engagement around leagues and teams.
This pivot marks a major transformation for Dream11’s parent firm, Dream Sports, following CEO Harsh Jain’s earlier statement that the company will not legally challenge the government’s real-money gaming ban.
