UIDAI launches Aadhaar mobile app for Android & iOS with QR code sharing, biometric security, and paperless Aadhaar verification.

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has brought out a new mobile Aadhaar app for both Android and iOS devices, which allows people to have a digital version of their ID in a secure way. The app is at its initial stage of testing, giving letting early users to test the app’s features and report their comments before the official opening of the app.
As per UIDAI, the new application will make Aadhaar verification easier by cutting down reliance on physical cards. People can get the app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and try out features such as instant paperless Aadhaar authentication. UIDAI has welcomed comments through [email protected] during this experimental period to sort out any problems.
UIDAI, in a post on X (the former Twitter), stated that the app puts the emphasis on user control, privacy, and portability. Its target is to ease identity verification for banking, passport issuance, driving licenses, academic admissions, etc., while at the same time reducing the need to carry hardcopy documents.
Prominent Traits of the Aadhaar App
Digital Sharing of Aadhaar ID: The users can share their Aadhaar information digitally without the need for the physical card.
QR Code and Verifiable Credentials: The app enables secure data transfer through QR-based sharing and verifiable credentials.
Masked Information: The complete 12-digit Aadhaar numbers are partially obscured during sharing so that privacy can be safeguarded.
Multiple Profiles: One mobile number can have up to five Aadhaar profiles linked to it, handy for parents taking care of children's IDs.
Biometric Security: The users can lock or unlock their biometric data within the application. When locked, the data stays protected until it is either manually unlocked or the system automatically disables it.
Step-By-Step Guide to Using the Aadhaar App
- Download and Install: Get the app from Play Store or App Store.
- Set Language & Enter Aadhaar: Pick your language and type in the 12-digit Aadhaar number.
- OTP Verification: Get and enter the OTP using your registered mobile number.
- Biometric or Face Authentication: Perform identity verification through face scan or fingerprint.
- Profile Setup: Add Aadhaar profile and set a six-digit PIN for security.
- Manage and Share Data: Access Aadhaar details, get QR codes, share IDs, and manage biometrics (lock/unlock) whenever needed.
