U.S. consumers who experienced unauthorized or unintended purchases in Fortnite have a final opportunity to request a refund, with the Federal Trade Commission announcing July 9, 2025, as the extended cutoff date for claims.
The revised deadline follows a prior expiration date of February 14. The FTC has distributed $126 million in refunds so far to players who submitted qualifying requests. The claims process stems from a 2022 settlement between the FTC and Epic Games, the developer of Fortnite, over allegations of deceptive practices and privacy law violations.
Individuals may qualify if they meet at least one of the following:
* Incurred charges for in-game items unintentionally between January 2017 and September 2022.
* Their child made unauthorized charges to a credit card between January 2017 and November 2018.
* Had their account locked between January 2017 and September 2022 after disputing charges with a credit card provider.
Eligible claimants must be at least 18 years old. Parents or guardians may file on behalf of minors. Claims can be submitted via the FTC’s official refund portal.
This claims process is limited to residents of the United States. The FTC has urged caution against potential scams, emphasizing it never charges fees for filing refund claims.
The FTC charged Epic Games with using deceptive user interface patterns, known as "dark patterns," to prompt players into purchases. The agency also cited Epic for breaching the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act by collecting data from underage users without parental consent.
FTC Chair Lina Khan previously stated that the case highlighted how Epic's default privacy settings and interface design misled users, especially minors. She noted that protecting young users from manipulative online design remains a central enforcement priority.

Anyone affected should visit the FTC refund claim site and file by July 9, 2025. Those who already filed do not need to take additional steps.
