Deepinder Goyal’s LAT Aerospace to Launch 12–24‑Seater STOL Planes, Aiming for Tier‑2/3 Air Connectivity
Deepinder Goyal and ex‑Zomato COO Surobhi Das launch LAT Aerospace to build low-cost STOL aircraft for regional travel, tapping India’s unused airstrips and targeting Tier‑2/3 cities

Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal is shifting gears into aviation with LAT Aerospace, co-founded alongside former Zomato COO Surobhi Das. The startup aims to democratize regional air travel by developing short takeoff and landing (STOL) aircraft with 12–24 seats for high-frequency, low-cost flights—much like "buses in the sky"—servicing underserved Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.
India currently has over 450 airstrips, but only around 150 are commercially active. LAT Aerospace plans to repurpose these for simplified "air-stops"—compact takeoff/landing zones—removing the need for full-scale airports and long security lines.
Goyal has invested $20 million, with the startup evaluating an additional $50 million in seed funding. The company is hiring aerospace, systems, and propulsion engineers, readying its first STOL prototypes with ranges up to 1,500 km.
Operating in stealth, LAT Aerospace plans to compete with regional aircraft manufacturers like ATR and Bombardier and aims to transform travel for millions who currently spend hours or days on roads and trains. Challenges such as regulatory approvals and infrastructure adaptation remain—but with Goyal's mentorship and Das’s operational experience, the venture is positioned for impact.
