Apple’s latest mobile software, iOS 26, is rolling out new tools that allow iPhone 17 owners and users of older devices to personalize lock screens with images, fonts, and widgets. The update makes it easier to align wallpapers with the “Liquid Glass” design of the iPhone 17 series.
The operating system offers several ways to set up a lock screen: through device settings, the Photos app, or directly from the lock screen itself. Each method allows users to select images, apply filters, and integrate widgets.
Users can open the Settings app, navigate to Wallpaper, and choose Add New Wallpaper. Photos can be added individually or through a shuffle option that cycles images. Once a picture is selected, filters, zoom, and cropping adjustments can be applied. Widgets such as flashlight, calculator, Gmail, or Instagram can then be added. Clock customization is also available, including changes to font style, size, and color.
Those who already have a preferred image can select it in the Photos app, tap the Share option, and use Set as Wallpaper. This directs users to the same customization menu where clock placement, widget layout, and filters can be adjusted.
A third method allows changes without navigating through apps. Pressing and holding the lock screen brings up a Customize option. From there, users can resize the clock, switch fonts, adjust color filters, and manage widgets.
Apple recommends limiting the number of widgets for a cleaner appearance. Default options such as flashlight and camera remain accessible.
