The CMF Buds 2, priced at Rs 2,699, enter the market as a mid-tier offering in Nothing's CMF Buds 2 lineup. Despite a few downgrades from the Plus model, these earbuds hold their ground with an impressive combination of features and value.

Although nearly identical to the Buds 2 Plus in shape and size, the Buds 2 opt for a more basic finish. The charging case includes a plastic rotating dial lid instead of the aluminum on the Plus. While it serves no functional purpose, it adds a visual twist. The earbuds maintain the same ergonomic profile but use less premium ear tips, which may impact fit and passive noise isolation.

The earbuds integrate with the Nothing X app, offering a familiar experience. Unlike the Plus variant, Buds 2 ship with Dirac Opteo as the default EQ setting. It optimizes sound output by correcting resonance and coloration. Notably absent is the Personal Sound feature and support for LDAC codec, limiting high-resolution audio capabilities. EQ customization is available but limited by the clunky three-band interface.

Outfitted with an 11mm PMI driver, the Buds 2 offer warm, bass-heavy sound that leans into mainstream listening preferences. While the high-end is more subdued compared to the Plus model, the mid-range comes through with added body and balance. The default Opteo preset offers spacious audio, but switching presets can cause brief silences and volume spikes. Still, the custom EQ retains Opteo processing, making it a preferable choice for audio tweaks.

Active noise cancellation is effective in low-frequency environments, though the generic ear tips compromise the seal. Microphone clarity is commendable with consistent voice pickup, while ambient transparency mode suffers from low output, rendering it less useful during playback.

Buds 2 offer an estimated 13.5 hours of playback without ANC. Real-world usage yielded 13 hours and 17 minutes, aligning closely with the claim. A quick 10-minute charge delivers over 4 hours of use, making these earbuds highly efficient.

Despite being a step down from the Buds 2 Plus, the CMF Buds 2 manage to stand out with solid sound tuning, reliable battery life, and strong core features. For users prioritizing comfort and audio balance over codec support, the Buds 2 offer a compelling value. In this segment, they emerge as a smart choice, arguably outshining their pricier sibling.
