Google has announced the rollout of its Gemini artificial intelligence models directly into the Chrome browser for desktop users in the United States. The feature will be available on both Mac and Windows systems with English as the default language setting.

The decision comes shortly after a U.S. federal judge declined to break up Google in a long-running antitrust case but ordered the company to share some search data with competitors. The ruling marked a significant development in the tech industry’s ongoing battle with regulators.

According to Google, Gemini integration will allow Chrome users to perform tasks such as summarizing information from multiple websites, retrieving previously visited pages, and completing multi-step actions. These capabilities will expand further in the coming months.

The company added that the Chrome iOS app will also gain Gemini support soon. Business customers using Google Workspace are expected to receive access in the weeks ahead, followed by wider availability across mobile platforms.

Google has tied Gemini in Chrome with other services, including YouTube, Calendar, and Maps. This deeper link between Gemini and core Google applications highlights the company’s push to keep users within its ecosystem while enhancing productivity features.

The move also positions Google against emerging rivals offering AI-driven browsers. Companies like Perplexity, whose AI browser “Comet” can execute tasks for users, are intensifying competition. In August, Perplexity made headlines after offering $34.5 billion in an unsolicited cash bid for Chrome.

Meanwhile, Apple has been in discussions with Google about deploying Gemini to upgrade Siri, Bloomberg reported earlier this year.

Judge Amit Mehta’s September ruling permits Google to maintain ownership of Chrome and Android while prohibiting certain exclusive agreements with device manufacturers and browser developers. The ruling still allows Google to pay partners like Apple to keep its search engine in default positions, a practice central to its market leadership.
