On August 20, 2025, India saw a major outage of ChatGPT, just one day after OpenAI rolled out its cost-effective subscription tier, ChatGPT Go. Starting around 11:30 AM IST, users began encountering login failures, slow responses, and complete inaccessibility across web and mobile platforms.
According to Downdetector, more than 500 outage reports surfaced quickly—55% of complaints were about ChatGPT’s web interface, 41% from the website, and 4% concerned the mobile app.
OpenAI later confirmed the glitch via its status page, identifying “elevated error rates” across services, including the chatbot, search, DALL·E, and integrations like WhatsApp. The issue impacted at least 23 services before being resolved.
