OpenAI has revealed that ChatGPT now handles approximately 2.5 billion prompts each day, more than doubling its daily usage since CEO Sam Altman shared that it was crossing the 1 billion mark in December 2024. Of these interactions, around 330 million prompts originate from users in the U.S., highlighting its rapid global uptake.
To put this in perspective, Google processes an estimated 13.7–16.4 billion searches daily, based on annual figures of roughly 5 trillion searches. Though ChatGPT still trails significantly, its steep growth curve is unmistakable.
This milestone reflects not just user growth but a deeper integration of ChatGPT across platforms—from web browsers to smartphones and productivity apps—all powered by the advanced GPT‑4o model. As conversational AI embeds itself more firmly into daily interactions, the traditional search model faces increasing competition.
In essence, while Google remains dominant in search volumes, ChatGPT’s surge suggests a fundamental change in how people seek information online—moving from static searches to dynamic, conversational queries.
