The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is set to release an upgraded Aadhaar application by December 2025, designed to simplify key tasks for Indian citizens. The new app will enable users to update addresses, download Aadhaar cards, and access PVC card services directly from their smartphones.

Currently, the m-Aadhaar application allows downloading Aadhaar and updating address details but does not support mobile number updates. Citizens seeking to change their registered mobile number must still visit an Aadhaar Seva Kendra in person. The process involves submitting a correction form, providing biometric authentication, and waiting for the new number to be linked, which generally takes a few days.

The upcoming Aadhaar app aims to streamline routine tasks and improve the overall user experience. While address updates, Aadhaar downloads, and PVC card services will be fully accessible within the app, mobile number changes will continue to require a physical visit due to security and verification protocols.

UIDAI has emphasized that in-person authentication remains essential for linking a mobile number to Aadhaar, citing the sensitivity of the information. Users can expect faster, simpler, and more secure Aadhaar management once the new app is rolled out nationwide.
