Reports say that Apple is going to introduce its first foldable smartphone, currently referred to as the iPhone Fold, which signifies the company's entrance into the foldable devices sector. The sources point out that the firm based in Cupertino may disclose the product next year eventually and that it will be setting a new high in terms of smartphone pricing.

Fubon Research reported that the iPhone Fold might be priced around $2,399 (about Rs 2,15,000) in the U.S. If this is true, it would not only be the highest-priced iPhone to date but also the most expensive foldable phone in the market at that time. In contrast, Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 was introduced with a price tag of $1,999 (approximately Rs 1,78,000) in the U.S., which strongly indicates a significant price mark-up for Apple's first foldable device.

India's pricing will likely be higher, as with all other Apple devices. The earlier leaks hinted at a possible price range of $2,000 (around Rs 1,78,000) to $2,500 (about Rs 2,23,000), which is in line with the very recent report.

Industry analysts believe that Apple would utilize top-notch materials, for which, the price would be determined primarily. Among these are the inner display that is almost crease-free and a hinge that is precision-engineered, all of which, raise the cost of production. It is anticipated that these features would provide Apple with an edge in the foldable technology market by attracting a segment of consumers who seek durability and luxury design.

Moreover, Fubon Research expects that the global market for foldable smartphones will remain strong even if the overall smartphone sales decrease by 2026. According to this report, Apple will likely sell about 5.4 million foldables in the first year of the iPhone Fold release, which will lead to the creation of foldables as one of the very few segments in the market that will grow next year.

Unofficially the iPhone Fold is attributed with a main display of 7.8 inches OLED and a cover display of 5.5 inches. JP Morgan's reports say that the inner display is very likely to have a 24-megapixel non-display selfie camera integrated. It is also predicted that Apple will be using Touch ID technology instead of Face ID for security.

The battery's capacity is anticipated to be minimum of 5,400mAh, which will be the largest battery used in an iPhone so far. The foldable gadget will probably be equipped with Apple’s next generation A20 Pro chip, the very same processor that is expected to come with the iPhone 18 Pro series.

According to the industry insiders, the iPhone Fold will be launched by Apple in September 2026 along with the iPhone 18 Pro series, which is in line with the strategy of the company of releasing new iPhones every six months. The standard iPhone 18, iPhone 18e, and the upcoming iPhone Air might come in early 2027, thus completing Apple’s staggered launch schedule for the year.
