Apple is planning to introduce the iPhone Fold as its first foldable smartphone. However, consumers that are about to buy the device should keep in mind that there might be delays or even shortages. An insider from the industry, Ming-Chi Kuo, who monitors Apple's supply chain closely from Hong Kong, confirmed the existence of the device and its release date in the latter half of 2026.
Kuo predicted that the problems in production could continue restricting the availability of the device even in 2027. He stated, "The foldable iPhone development is already behind the earlier timeline, but the product is still planned to be announced in 2026." He continued, "There are issues related to the yield and also the ramp-up has been slow, thus it may not be until next year that smooth shipments actually happen."
Experts are of the opinion that there will be a large demand for the foldable device mainly because of the consumers’ curiosity and the Apple brand loyalty that has already been established. Nevertheless, a shortage of supply is very likely to result in a situation whereby many customers would not be able to buy one right away, which would be similar to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max shortages that lasted for several months after their launch.
The price may also serve as an obstacle. Certain analysts in the market think that the iPhone Fold may be priced at around $2,399, which would put it on the highest tier of Apple’s product line. A comparison like this, buyers could get as many as three MacBook Airs for the same amount, thereby, putting a clear emphasis on the new device’s premium placement.
The iPhone Fold will have the dual-camera set-up for both the front and rear, according to reports, thus supporting Apple’s strategy on photography and multitasking. Even though no concrete specifications have yet been given by Apple, the rumored configuration is indicative that the device will be pitched against the top-tier Android foldables.
Kuo's predictions indicate that the customers will not be able to obtain the iPhone Fold straight away once it is launched. There will be a reduction in the number of units shipped due to logistical hitches and lack of raw materials, thus it would take several months for the , device to be accessible to all customers who are waiting for it.
The iPhone that folds up is a new product of the company that Apple has really worked hard to come to market, and industry experts believe that this new phone could change the perception of the demand for high-end smartphones. Still, it is possible that the combination of high prices and limited availability will slow down the rate of adoption at the outset.
