Apple Vision Pro Getting Faster M4 Chip, Easier Fit

Apple is preparing a hardware refresh for its Vision Pro mixed-reality headset, introducing a more advanced M4 chip and an updated head strap design, according to sources familiar with the company’s plans.

The next version of the Vision Pro will maintain the current external build but incorporate changes focused on internal performance and wearability. The new M4 chip, currently used in the latest iPad Pro, is expected to replace the M2 processor, bringing faster processing speeds and improved support for artificial intelligence tasks. These upgrades aim to enhance real-time visual rendering and multitasking within immersive environments.

In response to user feedback citing discomfort and prolonged usage fatigue, Apple will debut a redesigned head strap. The goal is to improve long-session usability without altering the core structure of the headset. Despite these improvements, pricing and display specifications are projected to remain consistent with the first-generation model.

This refresh is seen as a transitional update. Rather than a full overhaul, it serves to sustain interest in the Vision Pro line as Apple continues development on a new, more affordable version. Industry reports suggest this cost-effective model, possibly named Vision Air, could debut in 2027. Apple is also exploring long-term projects such as AR glasses that may arrive before the decade concludes.

Alongside the new hardware, Apple will introduce visionOS 26, the latest operating system version tailored for the Vision Pro platform. Key additions include virtual widgets and navigation powered by eye-tracking, offering a smoother and more interactive user experience. These updates are designed to take full advantage of the enhanced capabilities of the M4 chip.

Apple is also developing a new line of mixed-reality products aimed at broader consumer accessibility. The Vision Air headset is expected to weigh less and carry a reduced price compared to the current $3,999 Vision Pro. Separately, smart glasses with features such as voice control, gesture inputs, integrated cameras, and AI-based environmental awareness are reportedly in the pipeline for release by 2027.

The incremental update to Vision Pro underlines Apple’s intent to maintain relevance in the mixed-reality market while laying groundwork for future innovations in spatial computing.
