Apple is looking forward to revamp its Safari web browser on iOS devices as it’s looking forward to adding AI-powered options like Perplexity to its default browser.
Currently, Google is the default search engine on Apple’s browser, for which the former pays roughly $20 billion annually.
Notably, this development puts heightened pressure on Google as it faces cut-throat competition from AI startups such as OpenAI and Perplexity. Apple has already signed a deal with OpenAI to offer ChatGPT as an option in Siri. On the other hand, Google is looking forward to a similar move by mid-year to embed its Gemini AI technology in Apple’s latest devices.
Shares of Alphabet were down by 6%, while Apple tumbled 2%.
