Apple Releases iOS 26.2 Public Beta 2: New AirDrop Code, Liquid Glass Enhancements & Side Button Changes

Apple has rolled out the iOS 26.2 Public Beta 2 for eligible iPhones, bringing several new features, UI refinements, and early hints of upcoming regional changes. This release mirrors many additions introduced in the recent Developer Beta 3 and focuses on improving connectivity, interface clarity, and user customization.
New Features in iOS 26.2 Public Beta 2
One-Time AirDrop Code
One of the standout additions is a new AirDrop feature that lets users securely share files with people outside their contact list.
Users can generate a one-time AirDrop code
Exchange it with anyone nearby
Both devices can share files for up to 30 days
Users can also review or remove these temporary connections via:
Settings > General > AirDrop > Manage Known AirDrop Contacts
Liquid Glass Level Refinements
Apple continues polishing the redesigned Liquid Glass Level in the Measure app.
This update improves visibility of the readings, especially at angles where numbers were previously blocked by the UI.
Side Button Reassignment (Japan Only – Coming Soon)
Apple is preparing a major change for iPhone users in Japan:
The Side Button (currently locked to Siri) will soon allow reassignment
Users may choose Google Gemini, Amazon Alexa, or other assistants
The feature isn’t live yet but appears multiple times in system references, hinting at its arrival in the final 26.2 release
