Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro could feature reverse wireless charging, a long-awaited upgrade that would allow users to charge accessories like AirPods and Apple Watch directly from the back of the device. If implemented, this would mark the first time iPhones support wireless power-sharing, putting Apple in direct competition with Samsung Galaxy S25 and Google Pixel 10 series.

Apple Testing Reverse Charging

According to a leak on Weibo by tipster Fixed Focus Digital, Apple has been testing reverse wireless charging for its next-generation iPhone Pro models. Earlier leaks also suggested that the company was experimenting with 7.5W reverse charging on the iPhone 17 Pro.

While multiple reports indicate that Apple has completed internal testing, it remains unclear whether the feature will debut on the iPhone 17 lineup, which is expected to launch in September 2025.

Apple’s History With Reverse Charging

Apple has dabbled in reverse charging before—

In 2021, the MagSafe Battery Pack allowed iPhones to charge the pack while plugged in via Lightning cable.

In 2023, with the launch of the iPhone 15 series and its USB-C port, Apple enabled wired reverse charging at up to 4.5W.

However, the MagSafe Battery Pack was discontinued in the same year.

If wireless power-sharing is officially introduced on the iPhone 17 Pro, it would be the company’s biggest step yet in this space.

iPhone 17 Launch Details

The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to be unveiled at Apple’s annual September event, likely on September 9, 2025.

Alongside Pro models, Apple may also reveal a sleeker iPhone 17 Air and other devices.

Reports suggest all new iPhone 17 models will be manufactured in India for the first time.

Competing With Rivals

If Apple integrates reverse wireless charging into the iPhone 17 Pro, it will bring the device in line with rivals like:

Samsung Galaxy S25 (already supports wireless power-sharing).

Google Pixel 10 series (wireless charging for Pixel Buds and other accessories).

This move would not only improve ecosystem convenience but also expand Apple’s premium edge in the flagship smartphone market.
