Apple has broadened the scope of its self-service repair program and included all of its latest iPhone models in the list of iPhone 17, iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The original program that started in 2022 has now opened the doors for users in America, Canada, and many European countries to buy genuine Apple parts and fix their gadgets by themselves.

The program that has been updated will embrace all the main parts together, that is displays and batteries along with cameras, speakers and logic boards. On one side, Apple is aiming to give users more power; on the other side, the company is also concerned with the safety of their devices and thus is enforcing the use of official parts in the self-repair of any gadget and reduces risks that arise from third-party replacements.

To assist users in performing the repairs, Apple has made available detailed repair manuals for each model. Additionally, customers who do not own professional tools can rent a toolbox for a week at the cost of $49 in the U.S., thus making the single repair more convenient and avoiding the need for permanent investment in costly equipment.

The program has extended its reach beyond the U.S. and is now available in the U.K., France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, and Switzerland. This wider rollout is complemented by Apple's backing of the “Right to Repair” movement which advocates for the transparency of maintenance practices as well as the accessibility of devices for repair.

Apple considers that the self-repair initiative is meant for those users who are rather familiar with electronics, however, the advantages are even more widespread.

Local repair shops and independent technicians are able to get access to authentic parts which prevents the decline in the quality of service; on the other hand, the average user gets more repair alternatives, less cost, and fewer visits to the official service point.
