Apple has rolled out the iOS 18.5 update for eligible iPhones, alongside an urgent advisory for users to update their devices without delay due to several high-risk vulnerabilities identified in earlier software versions.

The newly released update addresses multiple security issues that, according to Apple, could allow remote attackers to gain unauthorized access or control over affected devices. The company emphasized the urgency of installing the update through a public security notice issued on Monday.

One of the most significant flaws patched involves the iPhone 16e’s Baseband component. Apple disclosed that this vulnerability may have permitted attackers with network privileges to intercept mobile data traffic. The issue has now been mitigated through enhanced state management mechanisms.

Another resolved issue centers on the Call History subsystem. Apple explained that call logs linked to deleted or uninstalled applications continued to surface in Spotlight search results. This behavior, viewed as a potential privacy threat, has been corrected in the iOS 18.5 build.

Additionally, the update resolves a Core Bluetooth flaw that exposed user data to unauthorized applications. Apple also confirmed fixes for CoreAudio and CoreMedia components, where malformed files could lead to unexpected crashes.

The company has also tackled a FaceTime issue where the microphone continued to transmit audio even after being muted, raising concerns over unintended audio leaks. Furthermore, a vulnerability in iCloud Document Sharing was fixed—previously, malicious actors could enable folder sharing without user consent, potentially leading to unauthorized data access.

Apart from addressing security concerns, iOS 18.5 delivers system-wide refinements and feature enhancements. Spotlight search has been updated to omit data from removed apps, improving privacy. The Notes app now includes tighter access restrictions, preventing unauthorized access to stored content like call recordings from the lock screen.

Aesthetically, Apple has added a Pride-themed iPhone wallpaper and introduced a matching Pride Edition Watch Band, available separately. Performance optimization and expanded compatibility with future applications are also part of this release.

The iOS 18.5 update supports all iPhone models starting from the iPhone XS. Apple recommends users install the update immediately by navigating to Settings > General > Software Update.

iPad users are advised to install iPadOS 18.5, which includes the same security fixes. Supported iPads include:

* iPad Pro (3rd generation and later)

* iPad Air (3rd generation and later)

* iPad mini (5th generation and later)

* iPad (7th generation and up)

Apple reiterated its recommendation to update devices promptly to secure them against active threats and maintain optimal performance.
