According to insiders, Apple is apparently working on a revolutionary iPhone to celebrate the 20 years of the device that changed the world. The device will be launched in 2027 and the anniversary version is going to be so different from the previous models that it will highlight the aspect of a completely and seamless front display along with a slimmed down body.
It is believed that the unique edition smartphone will do away with all hints of cut-outs, such as notches, hole-punch cameras, and the Dynamic Island interface. There are hints that the display might cover the whole front side of the phone and even possibly curve on the edges, but still look very modern with just a thin metal frame around it that contains physical buttons. It is expected that Face ID and selfie camera will be under the screen, which will improve the all-screen effect.
This action is in line with Apple’s previous landmark changes like the iPhone X in 2017 which changed the company’s whole smartphone design direction. Analysts believe that the anniversary model could become one of Apple’s most noteworthy changes in terms of aesthetics even if the phone is going to be very expensive, like the iPhone Air that is known to be costly.
The 20th-anniversary iPhone will take a while, but already Apple is reported to be preparing the iPhone 18 Pro and the 18 Pro Max for canceled launches in 2026 with innovative features. The new models are thought to be the first ones with the under-display Face ID technology, the main camera moving to the top-left corner and the Dynamic Island being removed from the display. However, the changes are said to be mostly internal with only a slight difference between the iPhone 17 Pro and current model series in terms of design.
Improved cameras are said to be among the new features coming with the iPhone 18 Pro. One of the rear cameras of the iPhone 18 Pro is rumoured to have a mechanical iris, which would let the user to vary the aperture. The photographer would thus have the option to control light intake and background blur to a greater extent, which would allow the photographer to take pictures with more creative effects than what the current models are capable of because of their fixed apertures.
The iPhone 18 Pro series is going to be released in September 2026, while the 20th-anniversary edition might be available in September 2027. Since Apple is still at the very beginning of its plans, the design and features are likely to change. If the present reports are accurate, the anniversary iPhone might not only re-establish the company’s position in full-display smartphones but also signify a major leap in terms of industrial design.
