Today, Apple has announced the latest updates to its core operating systems and has thus upgraded iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and visionOS to version 26.2. Users are going to benefit from performance improvements, security boosts, and new features across the devices.
As for the iOS 26.2 update, it is the one that gets the bulk of attention, for Apple speaks of enhancements for Apple Music, Podcasts, and Games, and overall system stability with security fixes.
Automatic updates devices may have the latest OS installed already. The process for manual installation is very easy: open the Settings app, go to General, and tap Software Update. Users can either do the installation right away or set it for overnight.
This update comes on the heels of the beta release in November, but the regular users will see some remarkable features as follows:
- “Favorite Songs” playlists now show up in the Top Picks section of Apple Music
- Lyrics support for offline playback of Apple Music tracks
- Automatic chapter generation for easier Podcast navigation
- Games library filters have been improved
- Supported is third-party mobile controllers
- Lock Screen customization with adjustable Liquid Glass opacity
- AirDrop verification codes for connections with unknown contacts
- Better safety notifications and alerts
- Updated navigation features in Apple News
- Accessibility option to flash the screen for incoming notifications
iPadOS 26.2 comes up with 17 fixes and improvements. The main Redo-Multitasking-New Gesture improves the multitasking experience via new gestures: app tiling and creation of Slide Over windows simply dragging and dropping from the Dock. Other enhancements follow similar to the iOS updates, like offline lyrics, music playlist changes, Podcasts navigation, Games library filters, controller support, and Lock Screen customization.
Edge Light is the first feature among macOS users, which is specifically made for video calls in the dark. It borders the screen with light, creating a ring-light effect and darkening the areas surrounding the mouse pointer. This way, the content is visible and better lighting is provided during the video call. Edge Light functions at its best in very dim indoor lighting and can be used along with other macOS effects.
Apple has not publicly shared the whole list of changes for watchOS and visionOS 26.2, but as a matter of fact, both updates have brought performance improvements, bug fixes, and security patches at the system level, which is in line with Apple's emphasis on device stability through the broader software updates.
Apple has been integrating the software updates and making them automatic, thus providing the users with the latest security updates and the opportunity to enjoy new features right away across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Vision devices.
