Apple has officially rolled out its Tap to Pay on iPhone feature to Hong Kong. By this feature, merchants can accept payments through iPhones directly via the contactless method, and they don’t need any additional hardware or terminals. The feature has been made available in taxis, retail, food and beverages, beauty and professionalism services, and other sectors.

The process is quite simple as merchants using NFC technology just have to inform the customers to hold their contactless card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or digital wallet near merchant's iPhone for a secure transaction to take place. This function operates on iPhone 11 and above with the latest iOS version.

On December 9, payment platforms like Adyen, Global Payments, KPay, and SoéPay started to provide support for Tap to Pay on iPhone, hence making it possible for thousands of businesses to provide smooth, safe, and instant payment options at their physical locations.

Along with Apple Pay, the feature also supports other digital wallets as well as contactless cards of the major networks like American Express, JCB, Mastercard, UnionPay, and Visa.

With the activation of Apple’s Tap to Pay, it is expected that soon the digital payment convenience in Hong Kong will be greatly enhanced for both merchants and customers.
