Apple introduces MacBook Neo to expand affordable Mac ecosystem

Apple Inc. has introduced the MacBook Neo, a new laptop designed to deliver the Mac computing experience at a more accessible price point. With this launch, the company aims to expand its ecosystem of hardware and software to a wider group of users worldwide, particularly students and entry-level professionals.
The MacBook Neo starts at ₹69,900 (approximately $760) in India, while students can purchase the device for ₹59,900 (about $651) under Apple’s education pricing. This makes it the most affordable Mac laptop currently available in Apple’s product lineup. Pre-orders began shortly after the announcement, and the laptop is scheduled to go on sale from March 11.
macOS Tahoe and Apple Ecosystem Integration
The new device runs on macOS Tahoe, Apple’s latest operating system designed to deliver a seamless computing experience across devices. The platform includes a range of built-in applications and supports integration with the Apple iPhone, enabling users to move smoothly between devices.
macOS Tahoe also supports Apple Intelligence, the company’s growing suite of artificial intelligence capabilities. These features allow users to perform advanced tasks such as smart search, intelligent writing assistance, and photo editing. In addition, the operating system provides access to a wide range of third-party applications, making the laptop suitable for both personal and professional use.
Modern Design with Advanced Display
In terms of design, MacBook Neo features a durable aluminium body and is available in four colour options: blush, indigo, silver, and citrus. The laptop is equipped with a 13-inch Liquid Retina display that delivers high resolution, strong brightness, and support for up to one billion colours.
The display is designed to produce sharp text and detailed visuals, making it suitable for work, entertainment, and creative tasks. Apple has also added an anti-reflective coating, improving screen visibility in bright or varied lighting environments.
Powered by the Apple A18 Pro Chip
At the heart of the MacBook Neo is the Apple A18 Pro chip, which enables smooth performance for everyday computing tasks such as web browsing, streaming content, and document editing.
According to Apple, the device can perform web browsing activities up to 50 percent faster than systems powered by the Intel Core Ultra 5 processor. The chip also enhances artificial intelligence capabilities, allowing certain on-device AI processes — including advanced photo editing — to run up to three times faster.
Connectivity, Camera, and Battery Performance
MacBook Neo offers multiple connectivity options, including two USB-C ports for charging, connecting accessories, or attaching external displays. It also includes a 3.5 mm headphone jack for wired audio connections.
Wireless connectivity is supported through Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 6, ensuring fast and reliable connections.
Apple says the laptop can deliver up to 16 hours of battery life on a single charge. For communication and media, the device features a 1080p FaceTime HD camera, dual microphones designed to enhance voice clarity, and side-firing speakers with Spatial Audio support.
User interaction is supported through Apple’s Magic Keyboard and a large Multi-Touch trackpad, which allows gesture-based navigation and precise cursor control.
Apple’s Most Sustainable MacBook Yet
Apple has also positioned MacBook Neo as its lowest-carbon MacBook to date, aligning with the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality across its operations by 2030.
The device contains 60 percent recycled materials, the highest share used in any Apple product so far. This includes 90 percent recycled aluminium in the chassis and 100 percent recycled cobalt in the battery.
Apple has also adopted a material-efficient forming process that uses 50 percent less aluminium than traditional manufacturing methods. Additionally, about 45 percent of the electricity used in the device’s supply chain comes from renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power.
The laptop meets Apple’s standards for energy efficiency and safe chemical use, while its fibre-based packaging is fully recyclable, further supporting the company’s sustainability initiatives.
With MacBook Neo, Apple aims to combine affordability, performance, and environmental responsibility, while introducing more users to the Mac ecosystem.
