Apple introduces iPhone 17e: More affordable entry to the iPhone 17 lineup

Apple has unveiled the iPhone 17e, the most affordable model in the iPhone 17 family, combining the new A19 chip, a 48MP camera, MagSafe support, and doubled base storage at a competitive starting price.
Apple on Monday announced the launch of iPhone 17e, positioning it as a value-focused yet powerful addition to the iPhone 17 lineup. Revealed from Apple Park in Cupertino, the iPhone 17e brings several flagship-grade features at a lower entry price, aimed at users looking to upgrade without paying premium-tier costs.
At the core of the iPhone 17e is Apple’s latest-generation A19 chip, built on advanced 3-nanometer technology. The new processor delivers up to twice the CPU performance of iPhone 11 while significantly improving power efficiency. Paired with a 4-core GPU and a 16-core Neural Engine, the A19 enables console-level gaming, hardware-accelerated ray tracing, and faster on-device AI tasks powered by Apple Intelligence.
The device also debuts C1X, Apple’s latest in-house cellular modem. According to Apple, C1X is up to two times faster than the modem used in iPhone 16e while consuming 30% less power than the modem found in iPhone 16 Pro, contributing to all-day battery life.
Display, design, and durability
iPhone 17e features a 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED display with up to 1200 nits of peak HDR brightness. It is protected by Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says offers three times better scratch resistance than the previous generation along with improved anti-reflective coating to reduce glare.
The phone is built with aerospace-grade aluminium and carries an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. It will be available in three colours — black, white, and a new soft pink — all with a premium matte finish.
Camera upgrades
Photography is handled by a 48MP Fusion camera system, which supports optical-quality 2x zoom, effectively offering “two cameras in one.” Users can shoot full 48MP images or opt for the default 24MP mode for a balance of quality and storage efficiency.
The camera system introduces next-generation Portrait mode, which automatically captures depth data for people and pets, allowing users to add or adjust background blur after the photo is taken. The phone also supports 4K Dolby Vision video, enhanced HDR, Night mode, and improved skin tone rendering.
Battery, charging, and MagSafe
Apple says the iPhone 17e delivers excellent all-day battery life thanks to the efficiency of Apple silicon and iOS 26. With USB-C fast charging, the phone can reach up to 50% charge in about 30 minutes. It also supports MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging up to 15W, unlocking access to Apple’s ecosystem of chargers, cases, wallets, and accessories.
Storage, pricing, and availability
A key highlight of the iPhone 17e is storage. The device now starts at 256GB, double the entry-level storage of the previous generation, at the same starting price of $599. Apple noted this represents four times the base storage offered on iPhone 12 at launch.
Pre-orders for iPhone 17e begin Wednesday, March 4, with availability starting Wednesday, March 11.
Commenting on the launch, Kaiann Drance, Apple’s Vice President of Worldwide iPhone Product Marketing, said the iPhone 17e “combines powerful performance and features our users love at an exceptional value,” adding that it is designed to remain fast, secure, and relevant for years to come.
With flagship-level performance, a modern camera system, MagSafe support, and significantly higher base storage, Apple is positioning the iPhone 17e as a long-term upgrade option for users seeking durability and value within the iPhone 17 family.
