In what could be a historic shift in its product strategy, Apple is reportedly planning to launch six iPhones in 2026, including its first-ever foldable iPhone and a new premium Pro model, marking a significant expansion beyond its usual September lineup of four.

According to The Information, Apple may alter its traditional release schedule to accommodate these additions. While the standard iPhone 18 and a successor to the iPhone 16e could launch as early as Spring 2026, the iPhone 18 Pro models, a new iPhone 18 Air, and the much-anticipated iPhone Fold are expected to debut later in the year.

A Foldable First for Apple

The iPhone Fold, which may launch in late 2026, is rumored to feature a book-style foldable design with a 5.7-inch outer display and a nearly 7.8-inch inner screen when opened. The device would be a direct competitor to Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold series, though Apple appears to be aiming for a higher design benchmark.

Apple has reportedly chosen Samsung Display as the exclusive OLED panel supplier for the foldable model. According to industry insiders and 9To5Mac, Samsung is the only manufacturer that currently meets Apple's strict crease-reduction standards—a critical factor for foldable durability and user experience. Other potential suppliers, such as LG Display and BOE, have allegedly not met Apple’s technical requirements.

Premium Pro Model for 20th Anniversary

Also in development is a high-end iPhone Pro model that may be released in 2026 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the original iPhone. As per Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this special edition is expected to feature premium glass materials, although further details are yet to emerge.

iPhone Fold: Key Specs and Expected Price

Display: 5.7-inch external, 7.8-inch internal

Thickness: Estimated between 4.5mm to 4.8mm

Security: Likely to include Face ID, skipping Touch ID

Cameras: Punch-hole front camera, dual rear camera setup

Price: Expected to be around $2,000

Renowned supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggests that the foldable iPhone may draw design cues from the upcoming iPhone 17 Air and could incorporate a unique hinge mechanism to eliminate visible screen creases—an industry-first if successful.

With this strategic expansion, Apple is not only broadening its product range but also aiming to redefine foldable smartphone standards. If the reports hold true, 2026 could be Apple’s most ambitious iPhone launch year yet.
