Bharti Airtel has silently phased out its two popular Rs 121 and Rs 181 prepaid plans, which resulted in a considerable number of users looking for replacements. These packages were liked for their low-priced data plans for 30 days, together with complimentary access to Airtel Xstream Play Premium, which consists of the content of over 25 OTT platforms like Netflix, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, etc.
The first news of this change came from TelecomTalk, and it has been already done on Airtel's website and mobile app, indicating that this is a minor yet significant change in Airtel’s prepaid offerings.
What Changed?
The 121-rupee and the 181-rupee discontinued plans were loved for their delivery in a straightforward way: just high-speed internet along with the OTT benefits. Since these plans got eliminated, the customers have to find alternate paths to enjoy both data and premium content.
New Airtel Prepaid Options
Rs 100 Pack: This plan gives 6GB of data valid for a period of 30 days and at the same time offers access to SonyLIV and 20 other OTT platforms through Airtel Xstream Play. Now this is the cheapest available data + OTT plan.
Rs 161 Pack: Aimed at heavy data users, it provides 12GB for a period of 30 days.
Rs 195 “Best cricket pack”: This plan also gives 12GB, plus a month-long JioHotstar subscription and all Xstream Play features.
Rs 361 Pack: A power user plan comes with 50GB for a month, and if you use it all, the charge is 50 paise per MB. It is perfect for users who stream videos, play games, or work online a lot.
Why Did Airtel Remove These Plans?
The modification is taking place while Airtel is increasing its customer base and currently, there are 393.7 million subscribers in total, making up 33.59% of the Indian market. The recently added telecom giant, which has now got more than 1.25 million new users, is still growing very strongly, indicating that the withdrawal of these packs is a change in strategy rather than a decline.
What This Means for Users
The customers who have been using the Rs 121 and Rs 181 packs for inexpensive data and OTT access will now have to switch to the new prepaid options. The top-ups do lead to a little increase in the price; however, they still come with great value added through the OTT benefits, therefore, entertainment and connectivity would not be disrupted.
