OpenAI to Begin Operations in India — All You Need to Know

OpenAI is set to commence its operations in India by establishing a corporate office in New Delhi.

Known for its AI chatbot ChatGPT, the company is looking forward to expanding its team countrywide, a statement read. Currently, OpenAI has one employee from India— Pragya Misra. She leads public policy and partnerships in the country after joining the firm last year.

The company has expressed its willingness to work with the federal government in its $1.2 billion IndiaAI Mission. Through this mission, the company aims to build large and small language models for the region.

Notably, ChatGPT’s second-largest userbase comes from India. The company this week also launched a more affordable monthly plan at below $5 to woo customers. It also offers a basic free plan and other premium paid subscriptions.
