India set to Become a Global AI Leader by 2035, Led by Young Talent and Data Power
India is accelerating towards its destiny as a global powerhouse in Artificial Intelligence and could eventually become the world's leading AI hub by 2035, state eminent advisors addressing the Indian International Science Festival. Eminent scientists and industry experts concurred at the IISF 2025 that the burgeoning youth in India, the richest ecosystem in data, and a growing digital infrastructure have laid the groundwork for this transformation.
IISF 2025, which began on December 6, now stands as one of the most transformative science initiatives of the year, fostering innovation and driving the vision of IndiANNA@2047, as per an official release.
Mission to make India the AI Trainer for 100 million youth
IIT Ropar Director Prof. Rajeev Ahuja, expressing that India had set the course for the world's AI hub by 2035, fueled by young innovators and a data-rich economy, explained the IndiaAI Mission should aim at:
- Train one crore youth in Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies
- Putative national AI computing infrastructure
- AI model indigenous development
- Accelerate ethical and responsible AI adoption
"... The introduction of this mission will let India not just stay satisfied with AI, but indeed forge ahead to define the future," @Ahuja said.
AI to AGI: Shaping the Future of Science and Society
The festival convened top leaders from academia, research, and industry to navigate how the road from AI to AGI will transform the essence of science and innovation for human advancement.
It was agreed by all the speakers that AI would soon form a foundation for every profession and everything from healthcare to education, manufacturing, and governance. They emphasized the dire need for data indigenous to India with local models and linguistic technologies for digital inclusiveness and equitable growth.
India's First Sovereign Language AI Model Showcased
Pratyush Kumar is the Co-Founder of the Sarvam AI. He showcased sophisticated multilingual AI systems that are in the making under the IndiaAI Mission, such as India's first independent foundational framework: a Large Language Model (LLM) made for Indian languages—a stepping stone to digital self-reliance.
Semiconductors, Servers, and Supercomputing on the Rise
Gopal Krishna Bhatt, Director of Data Centre Engineering at Intel, presented the most eye-catching session that depicted the fast trajectory of India to progress on server design, chip development, and high-performance computing. He said several server and data-center hardware projects are currently in the works in India, driven by the strong semiconductor and digital infrastructure push by the government.
Given the various other things he said, Manish Modani, Nvidia, highlighted that the ever-increasing GPU-enabled Supercomputing (HPC) infrastructure in India is greatly speeding up discovery in climate science, health, language technology.
Bray believes that India's huge data banks, untapped linguistic diversity, and deep well of scientific talent make for a rare advantage in global transition from AI to AGI, among the world's greatest brains in science - deep-learning experts.
