OpenAI has broadened its service offerings by enabling image generation directly within WhatsApp. Users can now interact with the AI via the verified contact number +1-800-ChatGPT to create visuals using text-based prompts.
The feature, previously restricted to ChatGPT's own platforms, now integrates seamlessly into WhatsApp. Users can generate new images or modify uploaded ones through guided instructions, making image-based interactions more accessible across devices.
This global rollout is free of charge and accessible in all regions where ChatGPT operates via WhatsApp. OpenAI officially confirmed the feature's launch through a post on X, previously known as Twitter. It stated, "ChatGPT image generation is now available in WhatsApp via 1-800-ChatGPT. Now available to everyone." A follow-up post reminded users to link their OpenAI accounts to enable continued image generation.
Steps to Use the Image Tool via WhatsApp:
1. Save the Contact: Add +1-800-242-8478 to your contacts.
2. Start a Chat: Open WhatsApp and send a message such as "Hi" to initiate communication.
3. Authenticate: Log in with your OpenAI credentials to verify access.
4. Send a Prompt: Request visuals with inputs like "generate an underwater cityscape" or "draw a tiger playing chess in a jungle."
Once linked, the chatbot uses DALL-·E to respond with images tailored to each query.
In a parallel development, WhatsApp is preparing to introduce in-app advertisements, a move that signals Meta’s efforts to monetize its vast user base of over two billion people. The ad placement will be one of the most significant changes since WhatsApp’s acquisition.
