Boston Dynamics showcased its next-generation Atlas humanoid robot at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2026 in Las Vegas, marking a major step forward in the integration of artificial intelligence with robotics.

Unveiled on January 5, the new Atlas reflects what the company describes as a turning point enabled by rapid advances in AI. “The rapid advancements in AI over the past few years are the piece that we needed, and that moment is finally here,” said Zachary Jackowski, Vice President and General Manager of Atlas at Boston Dynamics. The robotics firm is majority owned by Hyundai Motor Group.

Boston Dynamics said it plans to build a manufacturing facility capable of producing up to 30,000 robots annually by 2028. While pricing details were not disclosed, the company said Atlas robots will be deployed across Hyundai’s manufacturing sites as part of a broader push into what it calls “physical AI.”

Initial deployments, expected from 2028, will focus on parts sequencing tasks. As safety and quality benchmarks are validated, the scope of applications will expand. Hyundai said Atlas robots are projected to move into component assembly by 2030, with longer-term plans to handle heavy loads, repetitive motions, and complex industrial operations.

Designed to reduce physical strain on human workers, the humanoid robots will take on high-risk and repetitive tasks, laying the foundation for wider commercial adoption in industrial environments.

Boston Dynamics added that it expects humanoid robots to emerge as the largest segment of the physical artificial intelligence market—AI systems embedded in hardware that collect real-world data and make autonomous decisions—spanning areas such as robotics, smart manufacturing, and autonomous mobility.
