Apple on Monday rolled out Apple Intelligence across iPhone, iPad and Mac devices in India, embedding on-device AI features first announced earlier this year. The update, delivered via iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4 and macOS Sequoia 15.4, brings five core functions designed to automate routine tasks and streamline workflows.
The feature set supports the following models and configurations: iPhone 16, 16e, 16 Plus, 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max (A18/A18 Pro chips); iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max (A17 Pro); iPad Pro and iPad Air (M1 and later); iPad mini (A17 Pro); MacBook Air and MacBook Pro (M1 and later); iMac, Mac mini (M1 and later); Mac Studio (M1 Max and later); and Mac Pro (M2 Ultra).
Genmoji creates custom emoji by converting user descriptions into graphic icons. Users access the function within the emoji panel, type a phrase and receive a matching image.
Visual Intelligence extracts text from images and populates native apps. For example, scanning an event invitation with the camera can generate a calendar entry populated with date, time and location fields. The same tool can offer information on objects or landmarks captured in a photo.
Photo Clean Up removes unwanted elements from pictures through a tap-and-remove interface. The process runs entirely on the device and does not require cloud connections.
Summarise condenses lengthy emails into brief overviews. A native button in the Mail app triggers on-device processing to present key points without opening the full message.
Writing Tools offers rewriting and drafting functions across Messages, Notes and third-party apps. Built-in prompts connect with the ChatGPT API to generate or revise text in a specified tone without leaving the Apple ecosystem.
The rollout follows several months of trials and user previews, and marks Apple’s first expansion of device-level AI beyond the iPhone. The company says regional availability, including India, brings parity with similar features on competing Android models.
