The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department is exploring artificial intelligence–based cultural tourism initiatives with Eros Innovation, aiming to develop advanced systems that showcase India’s culture, languages and traditions through immersive digital experiences.

The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Department is exploring new ways to combine technology and tourism through artificial intelligence-powered cultural experiences. The initiative was discussed during a meeting between state officials and representatives of Eros Innovation.

The discussions took place during the Indian Association of Amusement Parks and Industries Expo, held at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, where industry leaders and policymakers gathered to explore innovations in entertainment and tourism infrastructure.

Minister Kandula Durgesh Leads Discussions

The meeting was led by Kandula Durgesh, who highlighted the state government’s plans to integrate cutting-edge technologies into tourism development.

Durgesh said the initiative aligns with the broader vision of N. Chandrababu Naidu, who has been promoting the state as a global destination for emerging technologies and digital innovation.

According to the minister, the government aims to leverage artificial intelligence to present Andhra Pradesh’s rich cultural heritage in new and engaging ways for domestic and international visitors.

Proposal for ‘Large Cultural Models’

One of the key ideas under discussion is the creation of the world’s first “Large Cultural Models” ecosystem. The concept involves building a specialised AI system designed to understand and represent the depth of Indian cultural heritage.

Such a system could analyse and interpret elements of Indian civilisation, including languages, mythology, traditions, historical narratives and storytelling practices. By integrating these insights with digital platforms, the technology could deliver immersive tourism experiences.

Officials believe the initiative could transform how tourists interact with cultural destinations by offering personalised narratives, virtual storytelling and AI-generated guides.

Linking Technology, Culture and Tourism

The proposed collaboration between the Tourism Department and Eros Innovation aims to bring together culture, digital innovation and tourism infrastructure.

Artificial intelligence tools could be used to create interactive exhibits, digital heritage archives and immersive storytelling platforms that enhance visitors’ understanding of Andhra Pradesh’s historical and cultural landmarks.

Such technology could also support multilingual content delivery, allowing international tourists to explore cultural stories in their preferred languages.

Potential Benefits for Tourism Growth

If implemented, the AI-based cultural tourism initiatives could significantly enhance the state’s tourism offerings. By combining traditional heritage with modern technology, Andhra Pradesh hopes to create unique visitor experiences that stand out globally.

Experts believe the adoption of AI-driven tourism platforms could attract technology enthusiasts, cultural travellers and international visitors interested in immersive cultural exploration.

The initiative also aligns with the growing global trend of smart tourism, where advanced digital tools are used to enrich travel experiences and improve destination management.

Exploring Future Partnerships

The discussions at the IAAPI Expo represent an early step in exploring potential technological partnerships. Officials indicated that further studies and collaborations may be undertaken to assess the feasibility of building the proposed AI ecosystem.

If successful, the project could position Andhra Pradesh as a pioneer in using artificial intelligence to preserve and promote cultural heritage while simultaneously boosting tourism development.
