Adobe Photoshop has rolled out a major beta update, introducing support for Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model (nicknamed Nano Banana) and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] inside its popular Generative Fill tool. This marks the first time non-Adobe AI models have been integrated into Photoshop, expanding creative possibilities for users.

What’s New in Photoshop Beta

Until now, Photoshop’s AI editing capabilities relied mainly on Adobe’s own Firefly image models. With this update, users can now choose between multiple AI engines—Google’s Nano Banana, Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext [pro], and Adobe Firefly—directly within the Generative Fill workflow.

Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Image (Nano Banana): Designed for stylised effects, graphic details, and “imaginative scene additions.” Ideal for creators looking to add artistic or surreal elements.

FLUX.1 Kontext [pro]: Focuses on contextual accuracy, perspective, and environmental balance, delivering realistic results.

Adobe Firefly: Marketed as a “commercially safe” solution for production workflows, supporting precision cropping, recomposition, and large-format printing.

Availability

Adobe confirmed that both Nano Banana and FLUX.1 Kontext [pro] are available immediately in the Photoshop beta version. The Gemini 2.5 Flash Image model has also been rolled out earlier in Adobe Express.

Why It Matters for Users

With the new multi-model setup, users can:

Generate creative content with prompt-based AI.

Refine results using layers, masks, and adjustments without leaving Photoshop.

Choose models based on project needs—whether stylised art, realistic edits, or production-ready visuals.

This flexibility means creators can move from concept to final edit more seamlessly, without juggling multiple apps or third-party plugins.

Bigger Picture

This move from Adobe signals an opening toward AI integration, therefore providing Photoshop users with access to AI-powered tools of all shapes and sizes within one platform. With experimental models like Nano Banana gaining ground in terms of creativity, this update will likely place Photoshop even more firmly in the spotlight for editing among both professionals and hobbyists.
