2025 MG Windsor EV to launch soon with bigger battery, ADAS features

India’s best-selling electric car, the MG Windsor EV, is getting ready for a major upgrade. Launched in September 2024, Windsor EV quickly captured the market thanks to its competitive pricing, Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, and a strong feature set. Now, MG is set to reinforce its leadership with some exciting updates.
What’s New for 2025?
Larger Battery Pack for Extended Range
Currently equipped with a 38-kWh battery offering an ARAI-certified range of 332 km, the Windsor EV delivers 136 hp and 200 Nm of torque. Soon, MG will introduce a variant featuring a larger 50.6-kWh battery pack.
This upgrade could boost the Windsor EV’s range to around 400 km under Indian standards, making long trips more convenient and reducing the need for frequent charging, even during heavy city commutes. Performance figures, however, are expected to remain the same.
Notably, the Indonesian-spec Wuling Cloud EV — a close cousin — already uses the same 50.6-kWh battery, achieving a 460 km range under CLTC standards.
Taking On Rivals
The Windsor’s closest competitor, the Tata Nexon EV, offers 30 kWh and 45 kWh battery options, with MIDC-certified ranges of 275 km and 489 km, respectively. However, Tata’s C75 real-world range estimates are slightly lower, between 210-230 km and 350-375 km.
The upcoming Windsor EV variant could edge ahead with its expected real-world range advantage.
ADAS Features Incoming
Along with the new battery option, MG is likely to introduce Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) to the Windsor lineup. The ADAS package may include:
Autonomous Emergency Braking
Lane Keeping Assist
Traffic Sign Recognition
Blind Spot Monitoring
Adaptive Cruise Control
Surround View Monitoring
This would give Windsor EV a major edge over the Nexon EV, which currently lacks a full ADAS suite (though it does offer features like blind spot view monitoring and a 360° camera).
Safety Credentials
While the Nexon EV boasts a 5-star BNCAP rating, the Windsor EV is yet to undergo crash testing. Still, it already comes equipped with robust safety features like 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold control, tyre pressure monitoring system, and parking sensors.
Pricing and Availability
The MG Windsor EV currently retails between ₹14 lakh and ₹16 lakh (ex-showroom). The larger battery variant will command a higher price but is expected to remain competitively positioned against rivals.
Following its rapid success — achieving 20,000 unit sales in just six months — the updated Windsor EV is poised to strengthen MG’s dominance in India’s electric car market.
