Visakhapatnam: Satellite technology has changed the journey of human life, said DRDO Director General (Naval Systems-Materials) Dr Y Srinivasa Rao on Sunday. He was the chief guest at the closing ceremony of the special program of World Space Week organised jointly by SHAR-ISRO and Raghu Engineering College here.

Speaking on this occasion, he suggested that knowledge of science should be applied in daily life. Rao said that the youth should excel in the startup sector. He said that the Indian Government is encouraging the youth to become inventors and entrepreneurs with startups in the fast developing space domain. He said that the demand for basic sciences will increase significantly in the future. He explained how the successes of space exploration affected the fields of navigation, communication, visual media transmission, and the many uses of satellite science that led to many changes in telephone communication.

G Appanna, SHAR Scientist and Chairman of Visakha Region Program Management Sub-Committee, said that space week was organised to increase awareness among the students of rural areas. He said that the creativity of the students of government schools was especially surprising. “Their words make us think. The response of the students is unprecedented,” he said adding that this program was organised in different parts of Andhra Pradesh as well as Odisha and Tamil Nadu to sensitise youth on emerging opportunities in space science.

Kalidindi Raghu, Chairman, Raghu Educational Institutions, said that the program received an unprecedented response from the students and youth adding that the program turned into a grand success.

SHAR- SDSE Chief General Manager P Venkata Reddy said India achieved unprecedented achievements in space in recent times. Chandrayaan and Aditya’s launch successes show India’s space research power. Space science is being brought to common students and future generations. He said that the interest and curiosity towards space science is increasing among the youth of India and expressed hope that space research will be a source of income for the country in the future.

The work done by Vikram Sarabhai, the manufacturing of rockets, space missions, liquid stages of rockets, lunar vehicles, satellites work, the performance of Indian communication satellites, and the methods by which satellites are useful to the people were explained in the exhibition. Dr Y Srinivasa Rao along with the guests inspected them. The models of various satellites and rockets were of great interest to the students.

A classical dance performance by a student of Raghu College entertained everyone in the program. More than 25,000 students from schools and colleges from five districts of Uttarandhra participated in the World Space Week awareness program held for four days and watched technical demonstrations.
