Waltair Division, which comes under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) Zone, is on a growth trajectory as it earned revenue to the tune of Rs 2,749.20 crore during the first four months of the current fiscal.

Visakhapatnam: Waltair Division, which comes under the East Coast Railway (ECoR) Zone, is on a growth trajectory as it earned revenue to the tune of Rs 2,749.20 crore during the first four months of the current fiscal. According to Divisional Railway Manager Anup Satpathy earned Rs 120 crore over the corresponding period of previous year. He said in the passenger traffic front the division has put up remarkable performance by providing comfortable journeys to 8.28 million passengers, 331.25 per cent more than last year, by fetching Rs 226.71 crore, which is 201.72 per cent more than corresponding period from April to July.

The DRM said that Waltair division and East Coast Railway have taken all possible steps to enhance passenger conveyance by converting ICF coaches to LHB Coaches, improving sanitation, intensive cleanliness drives, banning single use plastic, creating awareness among the public public on dangers of trespassing, chain pulling without proper reason etc. He also mentioned that the public was made aware of penalties to be imposed for littering and violation of safety norms by conducting counseling, awareness drives.

Elevent trains originating from Waltair division have been converted to modern LHB rakes.

He mentioned that additional coaches are being augmented to long distance trains in busy routes on a regular basis and special trains were introduced to clear extra rush like Visakhapatnam-Bangalore weekly. He ensured that as per the need and demand the trains will be run. He said weeklong celebrations of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav were held at Visakhapatnam station to celebrate 75 years of Indian Independence.

The DRM said that Waltair division earned a unique distinction by implementing One Station One Product concept stalls at several stations to encourage local artisans and handicrafts. This received thumping response and appreciation from all corners.
