Vijayawada/Visakhapatnam: Tension gripped all over Andhra Pradesh following the arrest of TDP national president and former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday in a corruption case.
The Criminal Investigation Department sleuths swooped on a function hall where he was camping at Nandyal in Kurnool district.
He was arrested for alleged involvement in the skill development scam during his tenure as Chief Minister. Visakhapatnam MLA and former Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao, who served as Skill Development Minister during the erstwhile TDP Government, was also arrested.
Both of them were arrested under non-bailable sections. Naidu challenged his arrest without following any procedure and described it as a political vendetta.
As the news spread, TDP activists hit the streets with protests. Several leaders were either arrested or detained to prevent law and order problem.
Earlier, Naidu was taken into custody at around 5 am after NSG guards providing security refused to allow his arrest at around 3 am.
TDP State president K. Atchan Naidu wondered how Chandrababu Naidu was arrested in skill development fund misuse case when his name is not included as an accused in the FIR.
