Vijayawada: In one of the most populist schemes, Andhra Pradesh Government has arranged a loan of Rs 35,000 each to an estimated 12,721,43 beneficiaries of Jagananna Housing Scheme amounting to a total of Rs 4,483 crore at 25 paisa interest for construction of the houses.

Projecting it as one of the priority items on its agenda, the YSRCP government has already laid down emphasis on transforming the colonies into smart townships with broadband, underground drainage, drinking water supply and other amenities.

At a review meeting held at his camp office at Tadepalli near here on Thursday, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy directed the Housing Department to take steps to expedite construction of houses and constantly monitor the status of basic infrastructure in Jagananna Colonies. Power efficient bulbs and fans are also provided to all the houses.

Reddy said that the official machinery should act in such a way that identified problems are solved immediately. Officials informed the Chief Minister that 7.43 lakh houses in Jagananna colonies were handed over to beneficiaries in October and works relating to as many as five lakh houses are in full swing and to be completed by February.

Basic facilities like water and power supply have been provided in all the colonies where houses were handed over to beneficiaries while steps are on to provide magic soak-pits, they said. Audits should be conducted on the houses for which construction has been completed in all respects to know the status of basic infrastructure like power supply, drinking water and soak-pits, the Chief Minister told them.

He asked them to focus on the management of TIDCO housing complexes and ensure that the beneficiaries’ associations are running efficiently by creating awareness among them. This is necessary to see that the handed-over properties do not lose their quality and the surrounding ambience is hygienic, he said.

Housing Minister Jogi Ramesh, AP State Housing Corporation Ltd (APSHCL) Chairman D. Dorababu, Chief Secretary K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Special Chief Secretaries Ajay Jain (Housing), Y. Sri Lakshmi (Municipal Administration & Urban Development), Housing Special Secretary B.M.D. Deewan Maidin, APTIDCO Managing Director Ch. Sridhar, Mines and Geology Director V.G.. Venkata Reddy and other senior officials were present.
