New districts operational from Ugadi, says AP Governor

Vijayawada/Visakhapatnam: Andhra Pradesh Governor Biswa Bhusan Harichandan on Monday said the State Government is 'steadfastly' committed to decentralised administration by increasing the number of districts from 13 to 26.
In his budget address for 2022-23 to the joint session of Legislative Assembly and Council, his first after addressing the past two years in virtual mode due to the pandemic, he said the present government is making concerted efforts for overall development of the State by taking up various welfare schemes 'Navaratnalu' and welfare initiatives.
The Governor did not mention about the proposed trifurcation of the capital. His customary address this time was disrupted by the main Opposition Telugu Desam Party with slogans 'Governor go back' blaming him for discharging his constitutional duties as soon as he began his speech.
The TDP members also tore off his speech copies and flew it in the air after rushing into the well of the House. Later after a walkout, they protested in the lobbies. After the end of his address, the Governor was escorted out by the Marshals and security personnel.
