Manmohan Singh Retires from Rajya Sabha, Congress Chief Assures He Will Remain a Hero

He highlighted Manmohan Singh's political legacy, significant achievements, including his economic policies that benefited various sections of society, lifting millions out of poverty.

Kharge emphasised Singh's role in implementing impactful schemes like the MGNREGA, which continues to provide relief to rural workers during times of crisis. Taking the chance on the event of Manmohan Singh's retirement, he lauded Singh's dignified leadership style and the wisdom he brought to the office of the Prime Minister, contrasting it with the current political landscape filled with loud voices and personal attacks.

Acknowledging Singh's critique of policies like demonetization, Kharge expressed confidence that the nation will recognise the importance of Singh's words in due time. He hoped that Singh would continue to be a voice of wisdom and a moral compass for the nation.

Congress chief's statement on Manmohan Singh's retirement also included the mention of laying the foundations of India's economic prosperity and stability, along with former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao. He lamented the lack of acknowledgment from the current leadership for the contributions of Manmohan Singh in Indian politics and the nation, despite benefiting from them.

Kharge expressed gratitude for the privilege of working with Singh and praised his availability and guidance to the Congress party despite personal inconveniences. As Singh and several other members of the Rajya Sabha retire, their contributions to the nation remain invaluable.
