Mane to invest Rs. 500 cr on expansion

Opens Rs 25-cr innovation centre in Hyderabad to create taste solutions for all forms of food and beverages, ranging from snacks to confectionery, dairy and savory applications

Hyderabad: Mane, French manufacturer of fragrance and flavours, has lined up €60 million (over Rs 500 crore) for expansion in South India. It has inaugurated a first-of-its-kind Innovation Center in Hyderabad with an investment of €3 million (over Rs 25 crore). The newly opened lab houses an expert team of experienced and trained technical directors, creators, flavourists, application teams and lab assistants.

On Tuesday, Flavour Innovation Centre was inaugurated by Jean Mane, Chairman of Mane Group along with Bernard Leynaud, Director, Asia Pacific, Mane Group and Sumit Dasgupta, Managing Director, Mane India Pvt Ltd. The team at the new facility will consistently research and develop flavour profiles to cater to the demand of the burgeoning F&B market in India and other APAC Regions.

"The company already has a Manufacuring Center in Hyderabad and a Fine Fragrance Studio in Mumbai. To further enhance its production capacity, it has recently set up a world class manufacturing hub in Dahej, Gujarat with an investment of €22 million (over Rs 185 crore). It can currently produce more than 2,000 tonnes of flavour and fragrance annually," Jean Mane told Bizz Buzz.

He further said: "Apart from its two major manufacturing sites at Hyderabad and Dahej, Mane India also has Spice Extraction Centres at Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh, Angamaly in Kerala, Hubli in Karnataka and Athivaram in Andhra Pradesh. The company will be investing €15 million (over Rs 125 crore) to double the annual capacity of Athivaram plant to 200 million tonnes by next year from 100 tonnes at present."

The 150-year-old company also plans to expand the facilities at Angamaly and Hubli, with an investment of €45 million (over Rs 377 crore) over the next three years. With these new facilities, the company's overall production capacity is likely to enhance from 12,000 tonnes a year to 25,000 tonnes a year, the chairman informed.

Sharing the company's expansion plans in Hyderabad, Sumit Dasgupta said, "We already have a manufacturing site at Dundigal in the city with an annual capacity of 2,000 tonnes. To meet the futuristic production needs, the company plans to set up another facility here to improve the capacity five times. We are still discussing with the State government to finalise a place near Medchal in a year or two."

The Innovation Centre is spread across 13,901 sft and will have two divisions - Sweet and Savoury. The Sweet division has four categories - Bakery, Dairy, Confectionery & Beverages and Savoury division has three categories - Snacks, Culinary & Frozen food. The two divisions will be highly efficient in catering to clients present across the country.
