Kejriwal Gets First Insulin Dose In Tihar Jail For Sugar Spike

Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi's Chief Minister, currently held in Tihar jail due to a liquor scam case, received insulin after his blood sugar spiked to 320, according to sources. This marks the first time he was given insulin since his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate, as his sugar levels were gradually increasing.

The insulin administration decision came after the AIIMS team recommended it once his sugar level crossed 200, as per Tihar jail officials. Kejriwal is implicated in an alleged excise policy scam and his judicial custody is slated to conclude on April 23.

The Rouse Avenue court in Delhi rejected Kejriwal's plea for a 15-minute daily doctor consultation, sparking criticism from the AAP. They accuse the government of neglecting Kejriwal's health needs and denying him insulin, crucial for diabetes management.

In response to Kejriwal's health concerns, the Delhi court ordered AIIMS to form a medical board to examine him, indicating the absence of a diabetologist in Tihar jail. The medical board will assess whether Kejriwal requires insulin to manage his blood sugar levels, as his current diet differs from the doctor's recommendations.

Delhi's Health Minister, Saurabh Bharadwaj, emphasised the lack of diabetic care in Tihar jail, supporting Kejriwal's claims. Atishi, another AAP member, welcomed the court's directive for a medical board, urging prompt medical attention to address Kejriwal's severe diabetic condition.

For the past ten days, Arvind Kejriwal's sugar level has consistently exceeded 300, leading to his persistent request for insulin to manage his sugar levels. The court's intervention highlights the necessity of adequate medical treatment and supervision for Kejriwal's health while in judicial custody at Tihar jail.
