Humayun Kabir’s ‘Babri Mosque’ Event Today: Saudi Clerics, Huge Crowd Expected

KOLKATA: Ahead of the proposed stone-laying ceremony of the controversial structure to be called the "Babri Mosque" by suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir, a combat-ready security clampdown materialized throughout the Murshidabad district. But despite criticisms from all sides and the police on his back, Humayun Kabir projected a cocky-image, speaking to journalists on Saturday.

“All is well. Wait till 12 noon — Quran recitation will begin, followed by the laying of the foundation stone. I’m receiving full cooperation from the administration.”

Preparation in the Community

Beldanga has now become a sprawling open space with lots of activity. Volunteers and locals have started groundwork activity -carrying materials, erecting structures, and organizing logistics.

Saifiqul Islam of Uttar Barasat, who was seen carrying bricks during the groundwork, said he was proud to be contributing to the construction. There were about 2,000 volunteers already working, with a likelihood of others to join hands before the event begins.

A total of about 3,000 volunteers will soon be employed for crowd management, keeping the access roads clear and traffic flowing.

Kabir came forward to the press and shared in all seriousness and happiness that the ceremony would begin with the recitation of the Quran at 10 am and the foundation stone laying at 12 noon. The grounds will be cleared by 4 pm, as per police operations protocol.

About 3,000 police personnel will cover the Beldanga and Raninagar areas for the event. Many traffic alternative plans are made, with NH-112 as having the number-one priority.

"We are trying to keep the highway traffic-free," said a senior police official, adding that "additional forces have arrived, and now we are going for layer redesign."
