Final SIR list out - Tamil Nadu Publishes Final Electoral Roll for 2026

On Monday, the Election Commission published the final electoral roll for Tamil Nadu state.

The commission is following the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) ahead of the upcoming

Assembly elections. More than 74 lakh names were dropped from the electoral list after the SIR

exercise.

In a press conference in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Archana Patnaik said

‘the total electorate now stands at 5.67 crore. It includes 2.7 crore men, 2.8 crore women, and

7,617 third gender voters.’

As per the statistics shared by the state election panel, earlier Tamil Nadu had 6.4 crore electors

on the rolls as of October 27, 2025. After the record phase of the SIR exercise, the draft

electoral roll published on December 19, 2025, added a reduced total of 5.4 crore electors.

During the objections and claims started from December 19, 2025, to January 30, 2026, the

Commission added 27.53 lakh entitled voters. At the same time, 4.23 lakh names are removed

from the list.

After following the changes, the Final voter list was released on February 23, 2026. This

electoral votes stand at 5.6 crore. In Coimbatore district, the total number of electors now stands

at 26.9 lakh.

● Chengalpattu district has 22,60,036 voters

● Tiruvallur district has a total of 31,57,413 voters.

● Ramanathapuram district has about 11,23,029 voters,

As per the officials on Tamil Nadu electoral roll 2026, the updated electoral roll is focused on

improving the accuracy and transparency before the Assembly polls. Election Commission

Tamil Nadu even encouraged eligible citizens who just turned 18 or changed residence to

confirm their details online to ensure a smooth contribution in the democratic procedure.

Authorities also add that the regular monitoring and future revisions will assist in keeping an

update and mistake free voter database across Tamil Nadu.
