Hyderabad: The Indian Society of Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (ISCCP) in collaboration with FehmiCare Hospital recently held its 15th National Conference in Hyderabad. The focus of the conference was on the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cervical cancer.

The theme of this year’s conference was “Advocacy to Action for cervical cancer elimination.” Here, national and international faculty discussed on the latest developments in the field. Over the two days, workshops with hands-on training, a public forum with eminent doctors and NGOs, and scientific deliberations were held.

The event was envisioned by Dr L Fahmida Banu, a Laparoscopic and Hysteroscopic Surgeon and Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist to spread awareness about cervical cancer and the importance of prevention and early detection. “Nearly 1.32 lakh new cases of cancer cervix are detected per year. The message is that cancer cervix can be prevented by HPV vaccination in adolescent age group of girls. Early detection of its onset can be done by a simple, very cheap and easy test called ‘Pap test,’ she said.

This initiative, partnered between FehmiCare and the ISCCP national body, was conducted under the direction of ISCCP president Dr Leela Digumarti, and FehmiCare Hospital director Dr L Fahmida Banu. Moreover, Dr K Nagasundari and Dr Murty and team worked together for this event, joined by pathologists Dr Swanalatha, Dr Meenakshi, Dr Tejal Modi from Apollo Hospitals, Dr Satish, Dr Milap from KIMS and Yashoda Hospitals, along with Dr Ramana Murty among others.
