BRS Kavitha arrest details

The Enforcement Directorate arrested BRS leader K Kavitha from her Hyderabad residence last evening in connection with the Delhi liquor policy case. At midnight, she was taken to the agency's headquarters in the nation's capital. She was moved to Delhi for additional interrogation in the case by the agency. She was taken to the agency's office, where medical examinations were conducted, upon her arrival in the city.

K Kavitha arrest incident explanation

This morning, in the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi, the agency produced K Kavitha, the daughter of former Telangana chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, and requested her remand for custodial interrogation. Prohibitory orders and heightened security have been implemented around the ED headquarters this morning.

K Kavitha’s brother and BRS Party supremo KTR tweeted on X:

‘’Abuse of power and institutional misuse to settle political scores is something that has become increasingly common with the BJP Govt in the last 10 years.

ED needs to answer the Supreme Court on the inordinate rush to arrest when the matter is very much sub-judice & up for review in a couple of days, on the 19th of March. What’s even more appalling is the ED undermining its own undertaking given to the Hon’ble Supreme Court

Justice shall prevail and we will continue to fight legally.’’

K Kavitha arrest incident summary

In a shocking arrest and hours-long search at her Hyderabad residence on Friday, the financial probe agency took Telangana Legislative Council Member K Kavitha, 46, into custody in connection with a money laundering case associated with the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy. As hundreds of her supporters demonstrated against the agency's action, Ms. Kavitha was apprehended at her Hyderabad home in Banjara Hills at around 5 p.m.

While the state's Congress administration was celebrating its 100th day of power in Telangana, the arrest occurred just weeks before the Lok Sabha elections. The prime minister, Narendra Modi, was also in Malkajgiri, the Hyderabad suburb, for a massive rally. Although the BRS leader was granted immunity from questioning until Wednesday, the Supreme Court heard her petition against the agency's summons in the case on Friday. The next hearing will be on Tuesday next week.
