The alleged attack on Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has escalated into a bitter political slugfest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

The controversy began after AAP MLA Anil Jha from Kirari dismissed the incident as “a drama for a story,” alleging that Gupta orchestrated the episode herself. “There’s been no attack. She put that man there herself, to create this drama. She has been doing such acts for years,” Jha said, further branding the BJP as a “naatak company.”

His remarks sparked outrage from the BJP. Delhi BJP secretary Harish Khurana posted on X, tagging AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal: “Is this your party’s official line? Your MLA is saying that no attack took place and that the CM is creating drama. It seems like a conspiracy, as your party has a history of such acts.”

The accused, identified as Rajesh Bhaiji, was arrested after allegedly slapping the CM. Preliminary police investigations suggest he was angered by the Delhi government’s stance on the Supreme Court’s order regarding the removal of stray dogs. However, BJP leaders have questioned this theory.

Meanwhile, AAP leaders including Arvind Kejriwal and former CM Atishi condemned the attack, calling it unacceptable in a democratic setup. Kejriwal stated: “There can be no place for violence in politics. I am confident that the police will take appropriate action.”

The controversy deepened when Khurana shared an image claiming to link the accused with AAP leader Gopal Italia. AAP dismissed the photo as AI-generated and accused BJP of spreading false narratives. Italia responded sharply, accusing Khurana of resorting to “cheap antics.”

While Rekha Gupta later assured supporters on X that she was feeling better, the political blame game shows no signs of cooling down. The police investigation into the motive of the accused is still underway.
