AP to make its power sector India's best

Steps are being taken for introducing sophisticated technologies in generation, transmission and distribution, says Special CS Vijayanand

Vijayawada: Special Chief Secretary for Energy K Vijayanand on Thursday said that the State government is taking constructive steps to make the power sector the most efficient and financially-healthy sector enabling it to address the increasing power demand and supply 24x7 cost effective power to all categories of consumers with zero interruptions.

On the occasion of birth anniversary of the great Indian engineer Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya celebrated at Dr Narla Tata Thermal power station (Dr NTTPS), AP Genco in Vijayawada organised by APSEB Engineers Association and APSEB AEEs Association, Vijayanand along with CMD AP Transco B Sreedhar and other senior officers unveiled the statue of Bharat Ratna Sir Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya.

Addressing the engineers, the Special CS said the government strongly wants to make AP power utilities as the best in the country and set benchmarks in every parameter of operation for others to follow. He said that the energy department is taking steps for enhancing internal efficiency, introducing sophisticated technologies in generation, transmission and distribution, improving the power infrastructure to introduce international standards in the sector and more importantly reaching expectations of the consumers making the sector peoples friendly.

"As the development of the State is concurrent with the power sector, Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy and Energy minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy are committed to generating and supplying power on a cost effective basis, which will benefit the energy sector and consumers as well," he said.

He said that the government has extended huge financial support to Discoms, took measures to enhance generation capacity, strengthen transmission and distribution networks. As part of enhancing installation capacity, the commercial operation of Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station (SDSTPS) stage II (1x800MW) Krishnapatnam thermal power plant would start in October 2022 and Dr Narla Tata Rao Thermal Power Station (Dr NTTPS) stage V (1x800MW) by February 2023.
