With strong commitment towards conserving energy resources and addressing the ill effects of climate change, the Andhra Pradesh Government on Sunday lauded the Centre’s initiative of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) and assured full support from the State.

As the people’s lifestyle has a substantial role in climate change, the LiFE movement aims to motivate individuals and communities to practice a lifestyle that is synchronous with nature to combat climate change. The LiFE movement was introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at COP26 in Glasgow on November 1, 2021 for mindful and deliberate utilisation, instead of mindless and destructive consumption to protect and preserve the environment.

The Mission LiFE is designed with the objective to mobilize at least one billion Indians and other global citizens to take individual and collective action for protecting and conserving the environment in the period 2022-28. Within India, at least 80 per cent of all villages and urban local bodies are aimed to become environment-friendly by 2028. The Mission LiFE focuses on nudging individuals towards simple behavioural changes in their daily lives which accumulate to contribute significantly towards climate action.

After Special Chief Secretary Energy K Vijayanand and Member-Secretary of AP Pollution Control Board B Sreedhar along with AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), SDA of AP officials explained about the mission, Energy and Environment Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy said that climate change poses a challenge to sustainability of social and economic development, livelihoods of communities and environmental management.

“AP Government is giving utmost priority for environmental protection and has created an exclusive Climate Change Cell (CCC).The cell addresses climate change issues through ecosystem based approach (EbA) on par with India’s national action plan on climate change and paves the way to tackle the global challenge of climate change,” the Minister said.
