Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Energy Minister Peddireddi Ramachandra Reddy on Sunday emphasised the need for the Energy Department to explore leading innovations and global technologies for round-the-clock quality power supply, reduce transmission and distribution losses and ensure optimum utilisation of non-conventional energy resources.

During a teleconference with the officials concerned, he said that the impact of energy efficiency and renewable power generation play a crucial role in round-the-clock power supply both in meeting quality and quantity parameters.

Citing an example for innovation and technologies, the Minister said that a NASA technology, built by Purdue University researchers in the US for the future space missions, can charge an electric car in just five minutes on earth, potentially paving the way for increased adoption of electric cars.

He said that the State government is giving utmost priority for cost effective and round-the-clock quality power which is vital for overall development of the State. Energy efficiency and energy conservation play a vital role in providing cost effective power and security and also reducing environment pollution.

Reddy said that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is committed to support energy conservation, energy efficiency activities and promote renewable energy generation in the State in a big way and meet the future energy demand as well.

"With the growth of the economy, the demand for energy has grown substantially. Further, the high level of energy intensity in some of the sectors is a matter of concern. In such a scenario efficient use of energy resources and their conservation assume tremendous significance and are essential for curtailment of wasteful consumption and sustainable development."

The government has directed power utilities to focus on sustainability of 24x7 quality power supply on a long-term basis by improving technologies and enhancing energy efficiency and renewable energy sectors that will help the State to provide energy security and best services to the general public.

Special Chief Secretary K Vijayanand explained the preparations being made by the department to achieve the goals set by the government ie energy savings target of 6.68 million ton of oil equivalent energy by 2030.

AP State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM) and AP State Energy Efficiency Development Corporation Limited (APSEEDCO) later demonstrated energy efficiency measures in Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam, model schools, rural water supply pumpsets, gram panchayat street lighting, and court buildings under Judiciary Department.
